In my last post, I told you about sitting in the sunshine this afternoon. After I got home, I was a little antsy.
And an ansty Alison can be calmed by going to the grocery store.
Yep. The woman who HATES getting groceries actually LIKES to go shopping for an item or two.
I thought I would get some pre-washed lettuce, because I'm out, and because it's getting to be salad season. Lately the pre-washed stuff has been a better deal than a head of lettuce. But instead of going to the Eco-Frais around the corner, I decided to go to the discount supermarket in town. I've only been there once before. I figured that they might have a good deal on the lettuce and other items I "needed".
There's a good reason I've only been to this discount store once: its name.
You wonder why a grocery store would be called "Le Mutant".
When you walk into Le Mutant and see its customer base, you understand why it's called that.
Seriously.
It's too bad I didn't have my camera with me. That's alls I'm sayin'. I'll let you imagine the Mutant-shopping people who live in this small, rural, poverty-stricken town.
Let me just also say that my antennae go up when I see canned goods for people directly across the aisle from canned goods for pets, you know, as if they were in the same food category.
And they didn't even have any pre-washed lettuce.
Next time I go, I'm taking my camera with me.

~do take the camera...a story like that would go well with an image or two!~

Here in the US, "Le Mutant" is known as "Walmart". Visit Target, then visit Walmart. As I used to ask my students, "compare and contrast".

You're right - that really doesn't seem like a very constructive name. But you remember it don't you? And that's half the battle ;-)
