Amber: between you and me...
Ali: oui?
Amber: [deep dark secret]
Amber: hehe
Ali: (thank you for not saying "between you and I" -- the English teacher in me hates that).
Ali: Hehe. [deep dark secret]
Amber: it bugs me too... I suck at spelling but i get all geeky when it comes to grammer
Ali: That's grammar, dear.
Amber: LOL
Amber: i tried that first and didn't like the way it looked
Ali: I feel like blogging that little exchange, anonymously of course.
Amber: feel free
Ali: Cool.
Amber: those who know me would love it
Amber: hell you can put my name to it if you like
Ali: I wouldn't use your name unless you agreed.
Amber: everyone knows i cant spell for shit
Ali: LOL

Really...it's "you and me" not "you and I"? Is that in Strunk and White?

It depends on the sentence, and whether the pronoun is the subject or the object. Here's the trick:
Put the pronoun I or me first. Would you say "it's just I"? No. "It's just me." So it's just you and me, kid.
A lot of people "overcorrect" their English because most of us as kids were told things like "It's not 'Jimmy and me went fishing,' it's 'Jimmy and I.'" (At least I was. My mom was an English teacher).
I can't find my copy of Strunk and White, but trust me on this.

My peeve is that when you're talking about "people" in the past, you use "were": "The people WERE confused." Yet when you describe the "people" as a "crowd", you use the singular "was": The crowd WAS confused. So then why is, "The rabble were upset by these arbitrary rules!" coorect? Then again, why is, "The congregation was stunned by the Priest's crimes." ok as well?
English, sminglish: We would have been better off not mixing Gaelic and Latin in the first place.
I can't imagine any other culture allowing that to happen.
A'ight, my peepz. Imma bout 2 go and get my work on. L8rz!

I blame all my years in business doing accounting and finance for my lost writing and grammar skills. Seriously, at least once a week I vow to get back to my A+ abilities. Somehow I think I'll never manage it. lol
