Une Folie de Mes 35 Ans

When I was twenty I spent six months as an exchange student in Sheffield, England.  I lived in a residence hall.  There were about thirty young women in my wing of the dorm; one of them was a tall girl named Liz.  Liz was a first-year student who'd taken a year out to go to India, where she had had her nose pierced.

I thought that the piercing looked pretty, but I was afraid to get one myself.  I don't know why.  I mean, when I was fourteen I self-pierced the cartilage of my right ear, just to piss off my mother. (I still wear a tiny earring in that hole, and always will).

Fast forward fifteen years.  While Allan was visiting me in SmallTown, France this past fall, the subject of pierced noses came up.  I told him I thought they looked cool (never mind the fact that a pierced nose is much more mainstream today; this has nothing to do with following a trend), and mused "Maybe I'll get my nose pierced."  He said "Go for it!"  And we talked about how he had been wanting to get his ear pierced.  So we decided to get pierced together.

Yesterday we did it.  We went to Tattoo Charlie's in Lexington.  Just before the piercer, Chris, went to work on me, I said to Allan, "I should have done this fifteen years ago."  Chris chuckled and got busy on my nose.  When he stood back from me, I uttered a very staccato and adamant "Fuck!"  And then a tear rolled down my left cheek.

Yes, it hurt like hell.  No, I have no regrets.  Yes, it does feel like I have a steak in my nose.  Click on the extended post link to see a photo.

When the three-month healing period is over with, I'll put in a tiny stud of some sort.  FYI.

Sérieux, c'est très mignon. S. ne veut pas malheureusement.

Looks good! Now how do you change them? I have always wondered if they have backs like earrings or are they hooks you just pop in?

That? Looks awesome! Hope it feels better soon!

Yay you!! I swear I almost passed out when I got mine done. Looks great.

My daughter has has her nose pierced for a year and a half and I've decided that it looks classy. (much better than some of those other piercings like tongue, lips, etc...) Bravo!

so there it is. a pierced nose!

and yea i was wondering about the backs too...

;-)

Cool! It looks really cute! Piercings I don't mind. Tattoos I think would do me in. The saddest day of my 20s was when I had to take out my tongue ring to get a real goddamned job :)

Well, you're still as lovely, but for me, I need a piercing like I need a hole in my head...

I just hope Allan got a Kevlar flak jacket for the first time you sneeze near him. If you name the stud that will go in that delightful nose of yours, might I suggest Rick O'Shea?

very cute! that's the same side i have mine in! ;-)

Strange - I swore you already had a pierced nose? *goes back to furtively peruse Reinstock photos* I do like it!

Oooh, it looks good! I'm in the "I'd pass out from the pain" camp but secretly I'd love to get it done too.

I just had my nose pierced, I was shocked at how easy it was. I too think it looks classy. Society is coming around to self expression in body art. GO US!!!
