Thank you all for the kind comments to my last post.
My trip here to Kentucky was smooth, and I've apparently brought some sunny weather with me. (Here's where I start singing Crowded House, and you join me for the chorus).
Allan and I spent today out shopping, with me marveling at all the cool new shit being marketed (oh! all the new kinds of Valentine's candy! Ah! the colors at Target!). No, wait. First we sat in a little coffee shop, Common Grounds, for an hour or so and drank big mugs of the house blend. It is a place I can imagine walking to, laptop in hand, to spend time getting bloginated while caffeining.
After that we went to a bunch of different places, sometimes just to look, sometimes because we had a specific thing in mind. I'm always amazed at the scope of choices one has when shopping in the States. But then, I live in SmallTown, France.
I wish I had taken my camera with me. The sunlight in the coffee shop was just beautiful. My Reuben sandwich at Schlotsky's deli was scrumptious, both in looks and taste. And the people! Ah, the people, like the sales girl that I wanted to smack at Old Navy, and the smily Andy Dick-looking manager at Schlotsky's: all fodder for photographs and blogstories.
More to come. Right now I have to take some Before pictures, so that I can blog about the After.

I love before and after photos! You are going to post them, aren't you?

Glad the trip was an easy one, but it helps when you know what's waiting for you, right?
;-)
Looking forward to lots and lots of pictures!

Schlotsky's? The cheapskate took you to Schlotsky's? :-)
BTW, Common Grounds is great, isn't it? *Mike hums the theme song to "Friends" because he can't sing*

It sounds like a wonderful day. When I returned from living for 2 years in Scotland, my mother took me to a Drug Emporium - enormous drug store. I was so overwhelmed at the choices that I couldn't buy a thing. But I recovered from that pretty quickly.
Enjoy

Hey, I had a reuben today too! Weird!
Glad you got here safely. Once you're all settled in, I'd love to plan a road trip to Lexington!

Glad you had a safe and easy flight this time. Hope you two have a wonderful time and I am looking forward to the pictures.

I like before and after pictures too. :)
I was sad when the Schlotsky's closed here... I used to go there for lunch now and again when I worked for the county. They were good and quick - and not terribly bad for you either.
Glad you made it there safe and sound - and I hope you have a wonderful time.

So you guys got me to thinkin'. You need some way to combine your time in France, your current address and food ... and then it dawned on me. Why not open a new fast food restaurant and call it KENTUCKY FRIED CREPES.
Just seemed like a perfect fit. See your promo shot at http://geedpix.blogspot.com
Take care and all the best...

Oh I HATE you! How you can you blog about this when I'm stuck here in Small Town France in the miserable January cold. I want to drink trendy coffee and browse in Target and do all that fun stuff! The least you can do is take lots of pictures and provide very minute detailed descriptions. That way I can pretend to be there too and it will be like a free trip to the States in the middle of winter (don't mind me I'll be sure and leave leave you two some time alone.)

Aaahhhh, good ol' Target, it's one of the things I miss the most, especially on Sundays when I'm bored out of my mind. Funny how when I was younger I refused to shop there (it was SO not cool *S*), and now it's become one of my favorite stores.

When I was last in France, I was told I was easily identifiable as an American because I smiled. I got into a conversation with one inn owner about how Americans are always smiley. I frankly never thought of us as particularly happy or smiley but I guess that's right.

So you're back home, you've left [SmallTown], one of the most boring city in the whole world, why? Anyway , i wish you all the happiness possible, i'll come sometimes on your blog to hear from you, and maybe post in english, but i'm lazy.
Take care, David your former french student from La Rochelle.

As a Reubin sandwich-a-holic and all round foodie, Schlotsly's version simply rocks! Get one for me; take a picture and blog it. (Please!?!). It will drive me nuts but maybe I could make one here in the other SmallTown, France. [My SmallTown] IS smaller than [yours] *LOL*
And I'll take a tall house coffee to go in a really neat carrying coffee mug (hint, hint at what you can bring me back... :-) )

Glad you arrived safely, and happy to hear you're enjoying your foray back into the consumer driven world of the U.S.

Welcome back. You'll be amazed at how quickly 600 channels of television can seem like none at all.

Glad to hear you're back.. And made it safely. Now get out and enjoy the Bluegrass.. The weather is going to be awesome for January the next couple of days. I'd suggest a trip to the Red River Gorge and Natural Bridge!
