My Week As A Blog Star
Nah, not really.
I just kind of felt like a Dooce or a Mimi Smartypants or a Clotilde.
Why?
Because my blog stats exploded.
In the past seven days, I've had (as of this writing) 41,876 pageloads.
I usually get 350 on a good day.
But, Alison, how did this happen? We didn't read about you in the New York Times! -ed.
No, you didn't.
I posted a link to a blonde joke that's been circulating around the internets for a while. Madame Levy linked to my post. Sandhill Trek linked to her. And all of a sudden, I had Many Pageloads. (Edit: Looks like the same thing happened to Sandhill Trek).
Some other folks linked to my blonde joke post. And the people kept coming as they followed the links to the Funniest Blonde Joke Ever in the Entire Universe.
Things peaked on Monday, when 8081 people clicked through to my blog.
Allan said, "Keep an eye on your bandwidth limit." I checked it, and thought I'd be okay.
Today I hit 97% of my limit for the month. I deleted the link to the joke and edited my January 11th post about it. I asked Madame Levy to delete her link to me, which she did.
I was afraid that in exceeding my bandwidth, my blog would be inaccessible until February 1st. According to Typepad, it would not have happened, but I didn't want to take any risks. Blogging is important to me, and although I had a backup plan, I didn't want to have to resort to it.
This past week has been exciting for me. Some of the people who ended up here seemed to come back. The number of returning visitors to my blog has just about doubled. And that's great. I hope that my new readers, if they stick around, find something of interest here.
If not, I still have my core of Constant Readers. I may not be a blog star, but You visit my website everyday to read my thoughts, observations, rants, and joys. And that, my friends, completely rocks. Thank you.

You're welcome. ;)
It's my pleasure.

That's how I found you. And here I am back again. The Blonde joke was on Gapingvoid and I followed it backwards. I posted the fool thing a week or so ago, so I knew the joke, I wanted to know where the Gapingvoid thread and mine shared a source.
I never did find it.

Well, thank you for coming back, Captoe. :)

I always am rather surprised at people who wind up at my blog from some strange searches. There seem to be some semi-common keywords that track back to a post or two of mine, I'm going to have to study that a bit more...

I got here 6 months ago through Barb originally, and now I'm a regular. Thank you for providing such fun reading material!

I came for the blond joke, but stayed for the galette.

I absolutely agree - I LOVE it when I get new readers, and I love it more when I have new readers that comment!
I hope that your doing better than you were the other day - :)

Well, I guess now you are going to have to share the joke's link so the some of us lesser read bloggers can feel like super stars too!

Loved you before the blonde joke honey. It's always fun to have new readers. And hey, readers who comment--what's NOT to love.

Aren't blogs and bloggers amazing. You just never know what's going to be well received.

The day I had to shell out for a better plan with higher bandwidth? It was a good day :-)

You are a blog star to me! Actually, I don't hang out much at the big blogger sites. They're not quite real to me and many times seem to be writing for their audience and not for themselves.

Now guess what happens when you post naked pictues of yourself....
