Who Said France Had An Unemployment Problem?
Can you sense the sarcasm?
Right around the corner from my apartment, a driving school closed down and another business opened up in its place. But -- I'm not sure I can call it a business. I don't know if it's a not-for-profit service or what. In any case, the sign on the door says "groupement d'employeurs," so I assume it is some sort of agency that provides jobs, temp or otherwise. (And why weren't they here last fall, when I needed to find work?)
The other day the front window was done up. Etched into the glass were images that look like bad clip art from several decades ago:
I know, it's not that easy to see all the bad clip art. Click on the photo to make it bigger.
What I find interesting is that seven of the eight images are of MEN. The lone woman is sitting in front of a computer TRS-80. What does THAT mean? Is she a secretary? Or a programmer? I dare not generalize, n'est-ce pas?
I'll let you go wild with all the theories on why there's only ONE WOMAN in this job service's front window.
Oh wait, before you go, check out her bitchin' 80s earrings:

That's a man too... The shadow is hiding the Adam's apple.
Throw an Indian* in there and you'd have all of the Village People.
(* Native American, whatever. He was an "injun" plain and simple.)

That would be funny if it weren't so sad.
I wonder how long it will be before they are out of business?

Those ARE bitchin' earrings. I bet she landed a job fast with those things on.

I used to dream of being able to wear earrings like that when I was a kid.

the earrings are '80's, but the lack of huge shoulder pads makes me think more like late '70's!

Maybe this represents the eight jobs they actually have available.
What's wrong with her arm and why is it pinned to the desk like that?
Posted by: misschrisc | February 06, 2006 at 16:25
Sigh...Those are my earings, and my hair cut...and the last time I checked both my shoulder pads had slipped somewhat and I'm now calling them cookies (they add a lift to my woefully over padded bra)
sheesh getting old sucks, worse however is having a sketch artist rendering of you posted as really bad 70's clip art.

Very bad clip art is a great description. Obviously a low budget operation. The woman looks like a cartoon from Mary Worth--if you are familiar with that series.

"groupement d'employeurs" - is normally a sign for a type of association (non profit making)
So I guess you could pardon them for their amateur window display !

She is obviously the boss of all these men.

I had totally forgotten about those earrings. I used to have some of those. In different colours. LOL Lord what was I thinking!!!!
That place doesn't look very positive that's for sure.

Actually the woman is an antique computer collector.

..or should that be a collector of antique computers....think I'll go back to that other place and post collections of silly emoticons...been out in the cold air too long...you understand, don't you?
