Last December I got a little personal on you, and wrote about having gained a lot of weight in a short time, and needing to lose that weight. Then the holidays came, and I decided not to worry about my, um, avoirdupois (and why isn't it avoirdupoids? I have weight, not a pea!). Then the stress of my move and all of the accompanying emotions kind of freaked me out, and I decided to continue not worrying about my surcharge pondérale.
My future arrival here became synonymous with my weight-loss effort. There was also a certain symbolism to it: new life, new Alison.
On Monday I weighed myself. Ouch.
On Tuesday Allan and I started a diet.
Today I weighed myself again (I know, you're NOT supposed to do it that often!), and no joke, I have lost five (5!) pounds. That's about two kilos, for those of you following along in Europe. I know the weight comes off quickly at first. I know there may be plateau moments. But -- five pounds! W00t!
Just forty to go. Eighteen kilos.

Good luck to both of you - seriously.
I gotta get back on that train myself.

Just don't fall into the American habit of never walking anywhere.
But why should a pretty girl like you worry about your weight? I am sure that Allan loves you just the way you are. Why not just take it easy for your first month in the U.S. and see what happens? No need to create pressure and a sense of deprivation when you're still semi-jet-lagged. Musn't rush things, you know.
Yes, I am intentionally giving you all the rationale you need to eat that bowl of ice cream.

Well, as you say, moving takes a lot out of you. :)
Anyway, I think you're beautiful just as you are.

Hey, way to go! I'd like to lose 8 or 10 kilos myself by summer time - I don't know if it'll happen, but I'm shooting for the rate of about 1 per week.

I lost a ton of weight when I first moved to France...it has slowed down but I still want to lose another 10 pounds. It is amazing how easy it is to put on and hard to take off.

LovelyWife and I joined a work 'Pool' on Tuesday. $25 bucks per person, 3 months, largest percentage weight loss wins the pot. I'm down 3 lbs since tuesday. 22 to go.

"changes in latitudes, changes in attitudes, nothing remains quite the same"
somehow that just floated into my brain. seems sort of appropriate.
not so appropriate when you start thinking about the cheeseburger aspects of Jimmy Buffett.
and as for weight loss, I lost 60 lbs (and have kept them off for four years) following this mantra: eat less, move more, stretch often.

I think you look great, but it's all about how YOU feel. (and I love the color of your new telephone--very attractive!)

There's lots of new-style cooking to get comfortable with. And it features lots of veggies, which I love!
