In Which I Try To Be Coherent
This morning I realized that my kids will be here in less than two weeks. Woo-hoo! And oh, shit! My things are strewn about the two bedrooms upstairs. My kids will inhabit those rooms this summer.
So I put some of my stuff "away" (I shoved things into a closet). I still need to clean up some other things. And Allan and I have some furniture to rearrange.
Oh, for fuck's sake. This started out lighthearted, and I lost my élan. I meant to tell you a tale of buying duvets and looking for cool duvet covers. The tale included calling upon my sister to purchase duvet covers for us from IKEA, since she lives about 10 minutes from the damn place. The tale also included the jubilant feelings I experienced when I realized that IKEA will ship things other than furniture! Things like duvet covers! Yay! And there's that coffee table (yes, coffee table) we noticed back in April. IKEA ships it!
Woo-hoo! Two duvet covers + one coffee table from IKEA, $298.98! Gawd, I heart IKEA. So. Much.
[Insert low, sardonic chuckle here]
IKEA merchandise, $298.98. Shipping, $300.88.
Ladies and gentlemen, three hundred dollars and eighty-eight hundredths for shipping.
I sent my sister an e-mail, detailing which duvet covers I wanted. IKEA's shipping for those alone was $20, and I calculated online that it would cost her less than half that amount to mail the things. We'll get the coffee table when we're in Pittsburgh in July.
So this post was meant to be humorous and snarky, and somewhere my balloon deflated. Nay, it got popped. At least you know the story though. I apologize for the piss-poor delivery. The sad thing is that it has nothing to do with the events described above.
I can't wait to go to PA with you and the kids next month.

OK, COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS TIME! Allan loves you, your kids are coming, you're working out three times a week, you can pick up the coffee table in Pa. and you don't have to build it from scratch, you have a neat Korean restaurant where the owner speaks English, and you have glossy white chompers! All you need now is your OWN nitrous tank and you too can learn to say 'ah fuck it' and mean it! Damn girl, you're almost there.

And if the UK "service" is anything to go by, you'd end up with 4 tablecloths and a wardrobe rather than 2 duvets and a coffee table.

Wow, shipping other than furniture, I was nearly excited until I read how much it cost. In our store in Edinburgh if you buy furniture in the seconds and ex-display area you have to pay an extra £10 per item for delivery, possibly something to do with it already being assembled but even so.
Exciting that the kids are coming!

I live abut 10 minutes from an Ikea too. Being so close, you lose your enchantment with them pretty quickly, even when shipping isn't a consideration (were they shipping from Sweden or something?).

Next time apply for a Gold Pier One card and get free delivery just for the heck of it. I heart IKEA, too, but sometimes only Pier One will do!

Damm, I could have spared you all the uphill excitement of online shopping then the downhill misery of gettting to the shipping costs part.
I wanted to order a part I forgot on our mecca-mission (a 2 hour drive) to IKEA.
The part $5
The shipping $20.87
Since I ship on ebay quite a bit I KNOW it would cost all of about $3 priority for it to get to me.
But, NOOOOOOOOOoooooo, appartently IKEA doesn't like to ship so they discourage you from doing so by charging 100% and up for the luxury of receiving your item via post.
FUCKERS.

I miss IKEA desperately, as a transplanted Californian living in Colorado. When I wanted new bedroom furniture, of course I wanted IKEA. I get the catalogue, I picked out what I liked, I called them up - $400 worth of a dresser and nightstand, and $285 to ship it. I thought the operator was kidding!! :-(

Don't you hate living somewhere where there's no Ikea? Me, too. That is hilarious that it would cost more to ship it than the actual price of it.
