It Was 20 Years Ago Today
I scanned this today to post in a "senior picture" forum. And I thought I'd post it here, too, since I have nothing else for you. So yeah, this was taken in the summer of '86. And I graduated from high school about 10 months later.
I am surprisingly NOT mortified by this photo. It was the 80s, and my sense of fashion could have been a lot worse. My hair is pretty funny, though, don't you think?

Flock Of Seagulls watch out....

Underneath the classis 80s hairstyle you still look very pretty!

I see no reason to be mortified. Velly pletty.

You're beautiful. And there's something reminiscent of Glenn Close in her hayday.

I downloaded the wall size copy and a hundred wallet size. I'm going to hand out the wallet size and tell people you're my daughter, or maybe my grand daughter.

I had hair almost exactly like that back in '85/86. DO you remember the Boat Shoes, Dockers, "parachute skirts"?
Wow that picture takes me way back.

* sigh* I dreamed of having hair that looked like that! <==== says the girl with naturally frizzy curly hair

I like IT. I remember those daze... with a smile.

SOOO Flock of Seagulls! Actually, I'm just jealous - my senior photo is mostly curls and one eye peeking out. I think I was wearing acid-washed Guess! jeans with an ankle zipper and white flats....horrible.

Ohhh yeeeaahh! I had that haircut!! But longer bangs over one eye and crimped.

What a great pic!

Beautiful!

You and I are all about the senior pictures today!
Posted by: Chris | August 02, 2006 at 19:59
That's cool 80s hair though!!
Do you know who you look like? No lie....Julia Roberts. I can see the Glenn Close comparison but I see more Julia than Glenn. Either way - Beautiful! You're very photogenic too :)

For my senior picture (87) I had a perm that my mom gave me :)

I think you look great. The least embarrassing high school photo I've seen.
Posted by: Neil | August 03, 2006 at 02:26
Considering the trend back then, your fashion sense was very "spot on" without going overboard. (Meaning you do look good!) At least you don't have the duel dark blush triangles pointing up your cheeks!

Cute picture. I think you look like the girl who played Kayla on Days of Our Lives. Mary Beth something or other, I'm too lazy to google her.
Posted by: Shelly | August 03, 2006 at 09:28
I'd say the hair is spot on for the 80's.

One thing about which I feel grateful is that France does not have that custom of doing yearbooks or senior pictures (I sorely remember coughing up mega bucks for my daughter's senior pictures three years ago...), so, yeah, I don't have such photos to worry about.
You look absolutely stunning, although my first reaction was that you look way older than 18 on that picture (you still look fantabulous, and probably younger than your years now.) Could you explain what the deal is with the back of that sweater (I am kind of surprised that nobody has asked yet)?
Posted by: Elisabeth | August 03, 2006 at 09:45
Thank you for all the sweet comments. About the back of the sweater: it was actually a dress; and yes, it was backless; and yes, my mother bought it for me. Green was my favorite color at the time.
I had just turned 16 when that portrait was taken.

oh yeah!!
you're so lucky that that's such a great pic of you from the 80's!!
big, tall, permed hair was HUGE in my neck of the woods, either that or full-blown prepster. i opted for the preppy chin-length bob, thank goodness.
big Benneton sweater, long pencil-skirt, and how can you forget the MIA flats!!

Yeah, I would have been the shy 15 year old boy fumbling to say, "Hi."
See how things just never change? Now drop your pants and call me, "Daddy." LOL!

niiiiiiiice backless sweater. that's hawt! ;)
your dimples are adorable. i am pretty sure i had a similar haircut back then.
Posted by: ms. sizzle | August 03, 2006 at 13:29
yep - you and I would have had matching hair
Posted by: ~Peter | August 04, 2006 at 01:07
20 years. It doesn't really feel that long ago to me, but I guess that it is.
Posted by: Jack | August 04, 2006 at 02:48
I survived the 80's.. The pics not as bad as you think. Not that I would post any pics of me from the 80's online..

You look younger now then you did then. Nose rings are the new face lifts?
Posted by: GdP | August 05, 2006 at 06:29
I still maintain that that's an amazingly cool haircut! Love it!
Posted by: Denise | August 05, 2006 at 21:07
What a great picture. You look pretty and a little amused.
Posted by: Joolie | August 07, 2006 at 00:02
If you were here, I could deceive you.

I immediately thought of "a flock of seagulls" as well. cute picture!
