Nameless Kitty

There's a vet's office right next to Curves...and sometimes Curves agrees to put up a notice about an animal that needs to be adopted. There was such an ad for Emmett, an orange and white kitty. I hesitated and hesitated, and one day the notice was gone.

So I went to the vet's and they said Emmett had gone home with someone, but that they had another cat that had come in the day before. I took a look and fell in love. The vet's office agreed to keep No Name until we were back from our two weekends away. In between trips, I paid the adoption fee.

We went to pick up No Name this afternoon. He's so sweet and affectionate. And for the record, he's a three-year-old stray. I heart his color. "Buff," the vet's office said it was. I like to think he's "creamy pumpkin." (Yes, I need a job at J. Crew or L.L. Bean, naming colors).

Meow Meow

I love this picture, because reminds me of Yoda he does. Allan has posted another one of him.

Here's the short list of names we have for him: Paddington, Woodford, Wile E., Graham, Cracker. Suggestions are welcome*

Champers. He's the color of a good widder clicket (Veuve Clicquot). Or Dom.

A local radio station has a DJ named "No Name," but he's nowhere near as cute as your new friend. Congrats and yay to your for rescuing this little guy. I rescued Jasper in Lexington and because he came from Frankfort, KY, his name was Frankie. I like Woodford, myself. Is your kitty from Woodford County?

I am sort of partial to Cracker, because my beagle's name is Crackers.. I like the other names too. Or Pumpkin, as you referred to his color. He looks adorable..
My daughter is allergic to cats or I would probably own one..

Enjoy your new baby....

Emmett II, saved by the (bar)bell?

That's great. Enjoy. That's one lucky cat having made it into a home in which he'll be so appreciated. No name suggestions...I haven't had enough coffee yet (but, ooh, try the coffee theme!).

I'm fond of Graham and Cracker (first and middle name). I was thinking about No Name last night and the name Emilio came to me. Not sure where that came from! I ran it by our kitties, Oscar, Sadie and Stanley. They liked it, too.

Julio
Steve
Mumford
Claude
Dino
Ringo
Fluffenstien
Parker (for Graham Parker)
Buddy (for Buddy Guy)
Fagen (for Donald Fagen - I had a bluepoint siamese of this name, great cat)

and i'll think of some more.

Ikia?

hey, i was thinking about this...i think he should have an "A" name, (or an "AL" name, like you and Allan.

here are some:
Arthur
Antonio
Alfie
Alberto
Alonzo
Aloysius

Lily.... I love Aloysius. That name is so underutilized these days. I'm still voting for Tigger. Is he bouncing off the walls?

how about Rudy? short for Rudebega?

and - thanks LittleMike :)

Let him roam around the house for a couple of days. His name will suddenly become obvious. Could be Yingling, or Sam Adams? Or Kentucky Ale? Or just Ale. Or, the cat may not like beer at all, and just like water, to drink. How can you worry about a name when there are so many more difficult problems, like what can we drink with the cat? Priorities prople.

looks to me like you could drink a nice, crisp, chablis with the cat. or some amber ale...i don't know. maybe he's more of a slippery nipple (butterscotch shnaps & something) kind of cat. i got it! call him Scotch!!

I'm kinda partial to Butters, but that's only because most of my references come from "South Park". On the other hand, the name of my cat came from a Rod Stewart song, "Maggie May" - maybe take something from a song you love?

~mags

I know Allan is partial to Mark & Seven. Maybe something to do with that. Oh that reminds me, I need to pick up a new bottle of Pimms.

Oh, this is about cat names? Not drinking? Sorry... um... Again, i have to go with Lily and her Slippery Nipples.... man back to drinking, how'd that happen?

wow. I dont mean to be depressing, but your new kitty looks just like a cat that i had that passed away 2 weeks ago. his name was Mercutio, as I name all my animals after Shakespearian characters. I had guppies named Rosencrantz and Guildenstern...but they died.

I say go for Cracker and see how many neighbors you can offend/confuse while shouting "Cracker" from the porch.

I kind of like Pumpkin.

or, since you are where you are, Punkin'

or even punkin-kitty..

See, I"m just simple folk. haha.

Love the colour of your kitty!
I love the name Sweetie. Did you know Naomi from "Here in the Hills"? She has a wonderful blog: http://sitteninthehills64.blogspot.com/
She has also a beautiful cat named Sweetie and you can see him at:
http://sweetiesuitesite.blogspot.com/

Thank you for your visiting and compliment about "my" toucans!

A gorgeous cat - and Alan's picture in the carrier is stunning too. I'd vote for Pumpkin - but I am sure that a cat like that will carry his name with style.

Well, I am partial to giving my pets people names - the cats are Toby, Stephanie, Stanley, Rhonda, Dave, and Calvin, the dog is Judy. Four of the fish have names - Kyle, Sam, Bruce, and Eric (Dennis got eaten, and the other bazillion fish will all end up being Fred, I'm sure.) So how about, say, Ralph or Eugene? Edgar is another one of my favorites, along with Alphonse. (BTW, I hate naming orange tiger stripe cats Tigger mostly because >everyone< does it. I had a friend who named TWO of her orange stripe cats Tigger, one after the other. . .I called the second one Spot instead.)

I like Ginger. Maybe not the most original name but he seems spicy and beautiful like ginger is.

Good luck naming him.

Anica

Eliot - for T.S. Eliot who wrote many nice cat poems.

Fish - Just because

Pantouflard - If he hangs around the house alot.. Pan for short

I thought you meant Curves the women's gym? How about the name GINGERBREAD?

I am soooo envious. I love red cats, and I've always wanted one. But:
1. I can't have a pet, it's in my lease.
2. I really wouldn't take on that responsibility ever again.
3. I am the one responsible for having adopted Tess, the evil cat, 12 years ago. I regret this daily.

Name him Yoda.

Mr. Higgins

Name suggestions:

Chai
Creamsicle
Woof (just to confuse people)
Apricot
Inigo Montoya

whatever you like will work out, but let me suggest a name with two syllables. one syllable is never interesting enough to a cat and more than two and they get bored with the whole thing. two syllables means you have a sporting chance that the cat "may" answer to its name. anything else, i have found diminishes this greatly.

oh, and don't make the mistake we did with our youngest, maple. she will only respond to her name in a high pitch voice. much like how the munchkins speak in the wizard of oz. don't do that. bad thing happen.

That Yoda thing is seriously funny.

Hi there, unnamed cat!

When I was a sophmore in high school I went to a summer bible camp / ranch in western South Dakota. While there, a litter of kittens was born in the barn and we named each one of them. There was an energetic black one with a piece of dirt on his nose and being high schoolers we decided to name him "Booger". I brought Booger home and he lived with me for the rest of high school. Sometimes in the middle of the night he would get bored and start pawing my nose.

Oh he's a cute one. How about Kennedy? He looks Irish to me.

OHH!!! i SO wanted to name a cat/dog Edgar. what a great name! Dave's always good, too. had a cat named Dave a long time ago.

what about Bunny?
i like Mr. Higgins, too!

i love everyone's suggestions! and now my next animal i will probably name Judy because - what a great name for a cat/dog!! (if not Julio)

Edgar got used a lot in my house when my kids were younger. I got tired of mommymommyMOMMYmommy, and told them I was no longer "mommy", I was Edgar. Broke the tension. Our dog Judy came with that name. We always figured the people at the shelter had been B. Kliban fans and named her after the cartoon that read "The callous sophisticates laughed at Judy's tiny head." (The dog's head is not exactly tiny, but it is proportionately small. It's mostly her brain that's tiny.)

definitely don't name him pumpkin. it's too "1980s, i'm five years old and just got my first kitty" sounding. and that goes for all other cutesy names suggested. and the names suggested that have to do with his color too.

this cat has been living on the streets for three years. he's a survivor. he's a lot deeper than the color of his fur. he needs a name with dignity that doesn't demean or belittle his life's journey thus far.

i kinda like NO NAME myself. it's cool, and rings with mystery, and is very endearing. it will bridge his past and present life.

if you don't like that, how about MASTER YODA? since he does bear a resemblance. of course on a daily basis he would just be called YODA. the MASTER would only be used for legal documents and disciplinary purposes, storytelling, or moments of awe.

"Julius." Full name? "Orange Julius Augustus Caesar."

That or "Tanner Creames," as in the color those self-tanner creams leave you.

Wait, are we talking about pet names or porn names? I got confused on the last one.

If he's like most cats, you can call him anything except late for dinner. . .

Name ideas:

Simon
Samuel
Graham
Nicholas
Rory
Yoda (hee hee)
Tomas
Toby
Bailey

Alright I will stop now. :P

We used to have two Siamese cats. One we called "Cat" and the other cat we called O.C. (Short for Other Cat) Strangely enough, it worked. Good luck. What a cutie!

How about Cha-Cha? No, taken! What letter is it for his year of birth? X? How about Xenia. Java Cream? I like Ikea. Crackers is too Golden retreiver n'est-ce pas? Heck, something coffee oriented, non? Butterscotch? OK, I'm pathetic, just go with Yoda. It rhymes with a lot of stuff!

He looks like a Calvin to me.
